Status: 14 hours/week (September - December 2018; 3-month duration)

Marwen educates and inspires young people from under-resourced communities and schools through the visual arts. Marwen provides out-of-school visual art, college planning, and career development programs year-round to students from nearly every neighborhood in Chicago. The 8-studio facility is located in River North at 833 North Orleans. Practicing artists design and lead courses in a wide-range of disciplines, including painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, photography, animation, fashion design, and mixed media). About the role:

The Social Media Intern supports the work of the Senior Manager of Communications, who oversees strategic communications for Marwen’s audiences (students/families, alumni, teaching artists, community supporters, current and prospective funders, and board members). This role will support targeted Communications efforts, including social media campaign development, digital data tracking and reporting, and creative special projects. This position requires a combination of detail-oriented data analysis, project management, and creative campaign development. This role -- which has a balance of data entry, administrative tasks, and creative work – affords an opportunity to develop ownership of projects over the course of the internship. This is an unpaid, school-credit based position that requires two 7-hour days per week (14 hours) for 3 months (negotiable).

 

Responsibilities:

  • Co-manage social media campaigns -- conceptualizing, planning, designing, drafting, and implementing content -- for all Marwen social media channels, which include Facebook, Twitter, instagram, LinkedIn, and Snapchat.

  • Manage Quarterly Digital Performance Reports – tracking and pulling data, developing and updating charts or visuals, writing summaries, and delivering final reports

  • Develop and manage Annual Digital Performance Report – tracking and analyzing data, writing summaries, and delivering final report

  • Support special events day-of (ex/ photography, video, registration, misc assignments as needed)
  • Attend staff, board, and other organizational meetings (during work hours)
  • As needed, perform additional administrative tasks as necessary to support the effective operation of the Communications office
Requirements
Skills & Qualifications: 
  • Currently enrolled in college; junior or senior preferred

  • Must be culturally competent and possess the ability to navigate spectrums of Chicago communities, including African American and Latino.

  • Must demonstrate sincerity and respect in all interactions with youth and adults.

  • Strong interest in pursuing a career in nonprofit arts and cultural communications and/or marketing

  • Previous internship experience in non-profit organization or communications-specific role is preferred, but not required

  • Graphic design experience with Adobe Creative Suite is preferred

  • Experience with database work, data-entry, or spreadsheet management preferred

  • Superb organizational and/or project management skills

  • Strong written, verbal, and problem-solving skills

  • Demonstrated interest in the visual arts, arts education, and/or creative youth development

  • Familiarity with Mac operating systems, Google systems

  • Ability to manage several projects at once; deadline oriented; comfort in working independently and in collaboration with various teams
