National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) 2018 Annual Convention Call for Volunteers

TheNational Organization ofMinorityArchitectswill host their46th annual conference in the beautiful City of Chicago, October 17th through20th.  The conferencewillbebasedattheHistoricPalmerHouseHotel located in the center of the vibrant loop downtown business district.  The conference will also feature a number of off-site seminars and events both during the day and into the evening that will offer more casual ways for attendees to interact with each other and get to know the city.  The conference generally attracts between 500-60 architects, designers and students to learn and socialize with each other.


Volunteers are needed Wednesday, October 17th – Saturday, October 20th from 7:00 a.m.- 11:00 p.m. each day.  Shifts will vary in length with a maximum of five hours per shift.   Weare looking for volunteers to fill multiple roles including:

Registration Check-In: Check-in Pre-registered Conference Attendees and distribute Conference Materials                                                                                      Thurs/Friday/Saturday Shift #1: 7am-12noon Shift #2: 12noon- 5 pm                                 

Registration Floater: Assist registration personnel in locating and stoking supplies                                                                                                                         Thurs/Friday/Saturday Shift #1: 7am-12noon Shift #2: 12noon- 5 pm

Way-finder (Street):  Direct Conference Attendees to off-site venues.  This position will be outside for the majority of the                                                              time and require long periods of standing                                                                                                                                                        Thurs/Friday/Sat Shift #1: 9 am – 12 pm; Shift #2: 1:30 pm- 5:30 pm                                                         

Way-Finder (Lobby):   Volunteer will need to welcome guest at the lobby of off-site locations                                                                                                           Thurs/Friday/Sat Shift #1: 9 am – 12 pm; Shift #2: 1:30 pm- 5:30 pm

Seminar Check-In:  Scan Seminar Attendees into the system to record attendance                                                                                                                      Thurs/Friday/Sat Shift #1: 9 am – 12 pm; Shift #2: 1:30 pm- 5:30 pm

Seminar Moderator:  Monitor time during the various seminars and alert speakers                                                                                                                            Thurs/Friday/Sat Shift #1: 9 am – 1 pm; Shift #2: 2 pm- 6 pm

Evening Event Check-In: Check-In Conference Attendees at Off-Site Evening Event Venues                                                                                                                 Thursday: Shift #1: 6-8 pm; Shift#2: 8-10 pm                                                                                                                                                    Friday: Shift #1: 6-8 pm; Shift #2: 8-10 pm

                                            (Volunteers will be allowed to stay for the duration of the event)

Skills & Qualifications: 

Volunteer Profile: Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and live in the City of Chicago.  Volunteers are responsible for their own transportation to and from the downtown area.  Please plan on arriving at least 15 minutes prior to the start of your assigned shift.  Volunteers will receive a t-shirt that they must wear for the duration of their shoot.  Some tasks may involve long periods so standing and/or light lifting.
