Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras (CYSO) announces an immediate opening for a Flute and Woodwind Coach to work with the CYSO at CPS programs at Moos Elementary and National Teachers Academy. Led by CYSO staff CYSO at NTA provides 5th – 8th grade student musicians with their first exposure to instrumental training. Moos elementary students receive band instruction from the full-time music teacher and will receive woodwind sectional coaching from CYSO staff. Program activities take place from October through May.
The Flute and Woodwind Coach will work directly with students providing instruction in instrumental technique, intonation, rhythm, and tone quality. The Coach will work with the flute students in split rehearsals twice at NTA months stated below. Woodwind students at Moos Elementary receive sectionals once in each month stated below. The Coach will consult with the band directors and work collaboratively in determining each sectionals focus and format.
The Flute and Woodwind Coach must have an intimate knowledge and is considered an instrument specialist with the ability to work with students with varying musical abilities. The Flute and Woodwind Coach is expected to be present at all pre-scheduled sectionals in October, November, December, February, March and April.
- CYSO at NTA - October through December and February through April. Twice each month for two consecutive hours, totaling four hours for six months. Days are either Monday or Wednesday between 3:45 pm and 5:50 pm and will be scheduled throughout the semester.
- CYSO at Moos - October through December and February through April. Once each month for two consecutive hours, totaling four hours for six months. Visits take place during the school day. Specific days and times are TBD.
