Costume Internship (2018-19)

Compass Creative Dramatics, an educational children's theatre company is looking for a minimum of two costume interns for its 2018/19 season. The costume internship will have the rotating role of a costume design assistant and  a costume technician. Travel stipend is not included, reliable transportation preferred.

 

Time Commitment

The tentative start date would be Monday, November 5th 2018. This will be a part time internship with a maximum of 20 hours per week onsite and offsite. Hours often flexible.

 

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.

  • Basic understanding of a domestic sewing machine.

  • Intermediate at cutting, machine-stitching, hand-stitching & hand finishing.

  • Problem solving and communicative abilities.

  • A positive attitude.

 

Costume Internship Requirements

  • Assistant to the costume manager/resident costume designer in costume plots, pulling, purchasing, book-keeping, and presentations, etc.

  • Participating in tour educator training.

  • Organization, restocking, and other studio maintenance.

  • Fitting room scribe, transferring fitting notes to first hand station.

  • Pressing and prepping material, labelling, costume construction and repairs, machine maintenance, and inventory.

 

Goals of the CCD Costume Internship

  • The Compass Creative Dramatics Internship in Costumes will give an understanding of working in a professional costume workspace and the structure of design within the production process.

  • Stitching assignments will be required.

  • A professional portfolio and resume review will be offered.

  • Technician experience and assistant performance that is creditable on a resume.

  • College credit is attainable.
