The Chicago Industrial Arts & Design Center (CIADC) is growing! To meet expanded needs, we are looking for a Composite Molding / Composite Fabrication Instructor starting January 2019

The ideal candidate would be have the flexibility to teach weekday evenings, with possible weekday morning and Saturday morning times as well. We’re looking for someone who can teach fundamental skills to diverse audiences and interests, and who would bring a unique, creative mindset to our organization. This person should be enthusiastic in working within our industrial "maker space" and want to be a part of our creative community and help us grow. Compensation is based on qualifications and experience. CIADC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable organization with a mission to provide education, working access, and community for 3D object makers working in materials/processes requiring industrial workspace, specialized skill sets, and shop equipment. We offer programming for both Teens and Adults in Casting & Molding, Metalworking & Forging, Technology & Design, and Woodworking, and cater to all interests and skill-levels!

Requirements
Skills & Qualifications: 

Candidates should have:

  • strong Composite Molding/Composite Fabrication (carbon fiber and fiberglass) object portfolio: sculptural, functional, product-oriented, and/or decorative objects
  • working and teaching knowledge of hand lay-up, vacuum bagging, and vacuum infusion molding processes
  • strong mold/plug and pattern making skills, using a variety of materials suitable for the processes
  • understanding of fabrication/assembly and finishing methods pertaining to the composite molded object
  • well versed in process safety including personal protective equipment, shop and hand tool use, etc.
  • working knowledge of CNC router use a plus
  • teaching experience with adult age groups (18+), of all skill-levels and interests
  • teaching experience with teenage groups (12-17) a plus
  • confidence to communicate and enforce safety and policies set by CIADC
  • exceptional organization and communication skills
