Van Collins has been in the dance industry for 30 years.  He graduated from the prestigious Chicago Academy for the Arts.  He then went on to train on scholarship with some of the most recognized dance studios in the Chicago area including the Chicago Multi-Cultural School for Performing Arts, Lou Conte Dance Studio, Joel Hall Dance Studio, and the Ruth Page Foundation School of Ballet.  After completing his training, Mr. Collins went on to dance professionally with the Joel Hall Dance Company, Tyego Dance Company, Anatomical Theatre, River North Dance Company, American Danz Theatre, and Farago Dance Company.  While dancing professionally, he toured Europe and began choreographing and teaching.  Mr. Collins won two choreography awards: National Choreography Recognition Award by the Regional Dance America Festival for a piece called “Seating Arrangements,” and Best Choreography by the Black Theatre Alliance Awards for a piece called “3/5.”  Mr. Collins served as Rehearsal Director for the Joel Hall Dancers in Chicago and as Artistic Director for Farago Dance Company in Milwaukee.
He has over 20 years in teaching experience having taught at more than 20 different dance studios including, but not limited to, Salt Creek Ballet, Columbia College Chicago, Joel Hall Dance Center, Lou Conte Dance Studio, Milwaukee Ballet, Gus Giordano Dance Center, University of Montana, and the Joseph Holmes Dance Studio.  His unorthodox teaching technique challenges and inspires to evoke the best artistic environment in the studio.  This serves as the basis and conception of his choreography company, Rasa Dance Chicago, Inc.  One reviewer described him stating, "Van Collins lays out an idea and makes you wonder what will happen next."  Besides Collins' involvement with the dance community, he is also the President and Executive Director of Good Vibes Teen Prevention Theatre, Inc. founded in 1993 by legendary performer Ben Vereen.  Good Vibes was established as a community outreach vehicle whose basis is "Teens Teaching Teens" to increase and promote positive peer pressure through the performing arts.
