Call for Summer Resident Artists (Inferno - Chicago Park District)

Summer 2018:

Program Overview: Inferno is a mobile creative media program of the Chicago Park District, dedicated to sonic art, music, collaborative experimentation, and community-based documentary work. We focus on youth ages 9-19, and special needs participants of all ages.
Inferno artists will be embedded in one of three programs - Day Camp, Special Recreation or TRACE (Teens Re-imagining Art, Community, & Environment). We will lead and challenge these park users in groups of 10-20 to collaboratively create music, video and other media.
Special Recreation and Day Camp artists will be responsible for leading campers in a collaborative music production process, fostering relevant idea development based in non-competition with peers. TRACE artists will be responsible for documenting and producing content on TRACE's summer work, as well as leading a group of paid interns in 2-3 hands-on workshops on media technology, documentation and production.
We expect artists to follow a camper-centered production workflow and upload media to our website and/or to our page the week it is created in order for participants to share their document with friends and family. The overall goal is to document participants’ ideas for a better human existence through the fun process of collaborative music and digital media production. Finally, we expect all artists to shape their recordings and/or content captured over the summer into a final creative piece to be showcased at a community gathering in mid- to late August.
Artists need a current valid driver’s license, and must be willing to drive (a CPD-leased vehicle) in neighborhoods they may not be familiar with. Only residents of Chicago with a verifiable address within the city of Chicago will be considered. Each artist will also have a member of Inferno's Doc:Team accompany them on each park visit.
