Activate! Chicago is curating unique artisitc and cultural experiences in public space across Chicago. We are seeking submissions from artists, community groups, nonprofits and individuals for ideas to enliven public space through arts and events for all ages.
Activate will provide financial support per activation or performance series. Past financial support ranged between $100 - $250 per activation, but can be more depending on the proposal. Activate will also assist with marketing efforts and city approval coordination. Partners will be responsible for additional fundraising, if needed, event coordination, marketing and audience development. All proposed activations must be completed by September 1, 2018. A list of plaza locations for consideration can be found here and examples of events in previous seasons are listed below:
- Clean and green planting day for all ages
- Acoustic guitar and flamenco dance class
- Puppet making tutorials for youth
- Temporary murals and art installations
- Seasonal events such as Harvest Fest or Winter Wonderland
- Single day or weekly music performance series
We encourage ideas not listed above to be submitted for consideration. Submissions are evaluated on an ongoing basis throughout the year and are reviewed by a committee of Activate! programmers. Due to the volume of submissions, please allow 1 week from the date of your submission for a decision.
